Pastor’s Pondering – March 29, 2017

Perspectives

It will be Holy Week soon,

My first one in the Bible Belt,

And I imagine (perhaps too vividly)

Being carried along like flotsam on a flooding river

Of donkeys and palms and loud Hosannas

Of crosses and tombs and wailing pilgrims,

All holy for sure but too fast and too loud

And too much in my face but not enough in my heart.

So today I ponder a gift,

Two tomato plants already in bloom

Perched by my office window

Waiting for their own Easter,

Waiting for all that is lush and hot and visceral

In summertime in the south-

And they are holy, to me.
