Pastor’s Pondering, March 13, 2019

If you made a quilt

Of the scraps of your years

Would you gather in

The nights of worry

And the gallons of tears?

Would you dig and find

The days of turmoil

And the hours of trouble?

Would you congregate

The months of hope,

The weeks of prayers,

And all the years

In which your dreams

Seemed too far to reach?

Would you make a pattern

Of the evening laughter,

Would you make a sampler

Of the daylight dappled

On your kitchen table?

Would it be faith,

Would it gather in

The ones who left,

And the ones left out?

If you made a quilt

Of the scraps of your years,

Would it be the Gospel,

Would it gather our tears

And redeem them all?
